The Medical Center Open is excited to fund Workforce Development initiatives at Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) this year. This unique program addresses critical healthcare talent shortages by connecting NGHS employees and local students with opportunities to grow professionally within the healthcare industry. By offering development programs, scholarships, and investing in local education programs with regional colleges and high schools, these efforts will build a strong talent pipeline. More importantly, this initiative will create meaningful career opportunities for future healthcare leaders in our region.

Local golf tournament funds the future of healthcare workers in Northeast Georgia

Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) Medical Center Open golf tournament has a long history of supporting the community, and this year’s tournament will continue that tradition for generations to come. The more than $309,000 raised at this year’s tournament will support workforce development at NGHS, enabling people to further their careers while also helping others.
“We are grateful to our sponsors, including the premier sponsor, Bank of America, for their generous support,” said Neal Booth, chair of the golf committee. “Many of our sponsors have supported this tournament for a long time. Their continued support, year after year, is why this tournament continues to exist and serve the needs of our community.”
The tournament, which has been around for more than 30 years, was held at Chicopee Woods Golf Course in Gainesville and included more than 200 golfers and more than 100 sponsors. The winning team included Chad Bruce, Shane Reed, John Scroggs and Devon Danbury.
“It was a great day,” said Dawn Marie Bernhard, co-chair of the golf committee. “To see the committee’s hard work over the last several months culminate in that kind of turnout was tremendous.”
Workforce development supports a sustainable workforce by identifying critical healthcare talent needs, creating programs focused on those needs and partnering with local colleges and high schools to identify and develop that talent. This is accomplished through need-based scholarships for NGHS employees, investing in local technical education programs for both NGHS employees and local job seekers, increasing career advancement programs and sponsoring regional high school healthcare programs.
“The money raised from this year’s Medical Center Open will allow us to position ourselves as leaders in the education and retention of the future of healthcare professionals in our community,” said Brett Gaines, executive director of Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development at NGHS. “Essentially, those who have supported the tournament this year are helping build the future of healthcare.”
