Patients who suffer injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) may require reconstructive surgery. The procedure is an arthroscopic surgery, which is performed under regional or general anesthesia. We understand that injuries to your ACL can be extremely painful and uncomfortable.  Our team at Northeast Georgia Health System is dedicated to providing advanced orthopedic care to help you get back to your everyday life.

Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstruction of the ACL is a procedure in which a graft is used to replace the ligament in the knee. The graft, or replacement tissue, is taken from the knee cap, tendon, or cadaver. After making multiple incisions in the knee area, the graft will be inserted by an orthopedic surgeon.

Post-op Recovery

ACL repair surgeries can be extremely effective, with many patients experiencing complete restoration of stability and function within the knee. The majority of ACL surgeries are outpatient procedures, which require a few hours of recovery. However, physical therapy and rehabilitation is key to a successful outcome and can take anywhere from four months to a year. As with every medical procedure, recovery time varies on a patient-to-patient basis.
