Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton recently completed the first phase of a two-part expansion project to meet the growing needs of the community.
Two new floors added to the hospital’s main tower are now home to the intensive care unit (ICU) and the intermediate care unit (IMCU), adding 48 beds to the hospital’s bed count. The first patient was successfully moved into the new ICU the morning of Monday, August 25. The spaces that previously held the ICU and IMCU will be renovated to serve as regular inpatient rooms.
“The Braselton community is vibrant and growing, and we’re thankful our hospital is growing to meet the need,” said Kevin Matson, vice president of regional hospitals at Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). “It’s an honor to serve this community by offering compassionate, quality healthcare, and this expansion is just one of the many ways NGHS is growing the greater good.”
The final phase of the expansion project is set to be completed in 2026, and will include:
- Expansions to the Emergency Department to care for patients more efficiently
- 200 additional parking spaces for patients and visitors
- A new helipad, resulting in faster and more efficient access to life-saving stroke, emergency and cardiac care
“Expanding our hospital is about more than building new floors,” said Angela Gary, chief nursing officer for NGMC Braselton and Barrow. “It’s about creating an environment where our teams can deliver the highest level of care and patients can receive the treatment and rest they need.”
