NGMC Braselton is now offering an intensive cardiac rehab program with educational content in addition to physical exercise.
People who are recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery now have even more help to make a full recovery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton.
Traditional cardiac rehabilitation typically includes 36 one-hour sessions of mostly physical exercise over three months. A new intensive cardiac rehab program at NGMC Braselton now adds individual coaching, cooking demonstrations, educational workshops, access to videos and more to help people make sustainable lifestyle changes for the long term.
“Participating in cardiac rehabilitation can protect your heart going forward and help prevent future issues,” says Mitchell Davis, MD, a cardiologist with Georgia Heart Institute and medical director of cardiovascular rehabilitation for NGMC. “Studies have shown that completing cardiac rehab decreases the risk of dying in the five-year period following a heart attack or heart surgery by 35%.”
Cardiac rehab is typically covered by health insurance. The same patients who qualify for traditional cardiac rehab are eligible for the intensive program, including those recovering from a heart attack, unstable angina, bypass surgery, ballon angioplasty, stent placement, valve repair or certain heart failure patients.
