Pyeloplasty

Pyeloplasty is a surgical procedure used for patients with ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction – a condition caused by the narrowing of the area between the ureter (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder) and the renal pelvis, also known as the ureteropelvic junction.

During the procedure, the surgeon removes the blockage in the urinary system and reattaches the healthy part of the kidney to the healthy part of the ureter.

Robotic Pyeloplasty

Robotic pyeloplasty is an attractive option for many patients experiencing UPJ obstruction.

The da Vinci Surgical System offers a magnified three-dimensional, high-definition vision system and special wristed instruments which allow the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.

Robotic pyeloplasty offers the following potential benefits compared to traditional pyeloplasty:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss
  • Less need for narcotic pain medicine
  • Faster return to normal activities
