NORTHEAST GEORGIA HEALTH SYSTEM CEO RECEIVES
WOMEN WHO MEAN BUSINESS AWARD

ATLANTA, Ga. – Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) president and CEO is one of the most influential businesswomen in Metro Atlanta. Carol Burrell was recognized as one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2018 Women Who Mean Business, along with 19 other women who are driving business in their industries. Honorees were chosen from more than 350 nominations for making significant strides in their careers, having an impact on their communities and paving the way for future generations.

“Carol is the perfect example of someone who has made a tremendous impact on NGHS, as well as our local and regional community,” said RK Whitehead, chairman of NGHS’ Board of Trustees. “She truly has our mission of ‘improving the health of the community in all we do’ at heart and has led our organization through a variety of transformations that will continue to improve care in Northeast Georgia for years to come.”

Past Women Who Mean Business honorees include Carol Tomé, CFO and executive vice president of corporate services for The Home Depot; Brenda Fitzgerald, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Teresa White, president of Aflac U.S.

Under Burrell’s leadership, the Health System has received dozens of top national and state ratings for quality clinical care from several independent sources; expanded from a one-hospital health system to a three-hospital health system; was named one of Metro Atlanta’s Top Workplaces for seven consecutive years by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; and was recognized as one of Atlanta’s Top 25 Employers by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. A study released this year by the Georgia Hospital Association estimates NGHS’ economic impact on the state and local economy at more than $1.75 billion.
