Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin is a 66,000-square-foot hospital that serves Dahlonega, Georgia, and the surrounding areas. Services include 24/7 emergency care, advanced surgery, inpatient care and on-site imaging, lab and pharmacy support.
Access to high-quality healthcare is important in every community, especially when patients can receive that care close to home. And patients in and around Lumpkin County can rest assured they’ll receive that level of care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Lumpkin, as the hospital was recently recognized by Vizient as a top performer in the 2026 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking.
NGMC Lumpkin was ranked No. 4 among the 24 Vizient hospitals that received the award in the 220-member small community hospital cohort. Vizient works with hospitals and health systems across the country to compare performance, share best practices and help improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care.
“We knew we were filling a need in the area when we opened the new NGMC Lumpkin along GA-400 two years ago,” said Matt Hanley, MD, president and CEO of NGHS. “Watching the hospital and all the clinicians and staff who work there actually meet that need every day has been an honor. This award is a testament to the dedication they bring to their jobs every day and evidence of the clinical excellence we bring to patients at NGMC.”
This year, 1,346 participating hospitals were segmented into seven cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The study measures performance on the quality of patient care in safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and variation in care.
The study helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The recognition period is for work spanning July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
“Delivering consistently high-quality care requires organizations to align clinical expertise, operational discipline and a continuous focus on improvement,” said David Levine, MD, chief medical officer for Vizient. “The hospitals recognized this year demonstrate what is possible when that commitment is embedded across the organization, resulting in better performance and, most importantly, better care for patients.”
