Union General Health System enhances radiology services through new agreement with NGHS

People who need radiology services to support their care at Union General Hospital or Chatuge Regional Hospital will soon see improvements as Union General Health System forms a new partnership with Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS).

“This agreement helps ensure our patients continue to receive timely, high-quality radiology services close to home,” said Kevin Bierschenk, chief executive officer of Union General Health System. “We remain committed to working with a variety of healthcare providers and organizations that help us fulfill our mission of delivering high-quality, cost-effective care to the communities we serve.”

Northeast Georgia Health System is the largest health system in the state that’s not headquartered in Atlanta. Based in Gainesville, which is a little over an hour’s drive south of Blairsville, NGHS operates seven hospitals – including five acute care hospitals in Gainesville, Braselton, Dahlonega, Demorest and Winder – and dozens of other locations across the region.

The new partnership agreement, which starts in January, means NGHS’ trusted radiology team will provide timely reads of medical images. NGHS will also employ a local advanced practice provider who will be able to provide key inpatient procedures that rely on radiology guidance for precision and safety.

“We’re proud to partner with Union General Health System, which should be commended for continuing to find reliable solutions to solve challenges and provide high-quality healthcare during a time when many other rural hospitals across the state are struggling,” said Matt Hanley, MD, president and CEO of NGHS. “Our organizations have a long history of caring for shared patients, so providing this type of support seems natural and is beneficial for all involved.”
