The staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center is proud to have been a part of thousands of births in the more than 50 years we’ve been delivering babies.
At NGMC, we believe in Mother/Baby Care, which allows you to actively participate in caring for your newborn during your hospital visit. Our role in helping you bond with your baby is as important as the delivery itself. Part of Mother/Baby Care is having your baby in the room with you as much as you’d like.
The comfort and safety of our families are our highest priority. We also understand the need for peace and quiet during your stay and have made extra effort to reduce any unnecessary noise. Our labor and delivery units are “locked units,” therefore only visitors who have checked in with security and are allowed permission are allowed access.
By choosing us as your hospital, you place a very special trust in us, and we will make your stay memorable and pleasant.
Planning Ahead
Preparing for your baby’s arrival is exciting — and we’re here to help you feel confident every step of the way. From delivery pre-registration to childbirth education classes and hospital tours, our team provides resources designed to answer your questions and ease your mind. Whether you’re creating a birth plan or exploring your options for pain management, you’ll find support to make the experience your own.
To ensure a safe and supportive environment for moms, babies and families, we provide visitation guidelines, so you’ll know what to expect when welcoming visitors during your stay.
Preparing for your baby’s arrival is easier with the right support. Our classes cover everything from labor and delivery to newborn care and breastfeeding, giving you tools and confidence for the journey ahead. You can also schedule a tour of our labor and delivery units to get familiar with the space, meet members of our care team and know exactly what to expect when it’s time to welcome your baby.
Birth tissue consists of the placenta, umbilical cord, cord blood and amniotic fluid. Typically, birth tissue is disposed of as medical waste after delivery.
During your delivery, you may have the opportunity to donate birth tissue — a simple, safe choice that can help others heal and improve lives.
The Windows Shops of NGMC offer a variety of items for new babies, families, and loved ones to celebrate your arrival.
After Delivery
Your care doesn’t stop once your baby is born. Our team is here to support you during recovery and beyond, with resources for breastfeeding, newborn care and postpartum rehabilitation. From lactation consultants and support groups to follow-up appointments and education on caring for your newborn, we’re dedicated to helping you and your family thrive in the days, weeks and months after delivery.
Our lactation consultants provide personalized guidance to help you feel confident with breastfeeding, both during your hospital stay and at our outpatient locations for continued support after you go home.
We are proud to be the only health system in the state offering specialized inpatient postpartum rehabilitation, helping new moms safely recover, regain strength and restore confidence after delivery.
When babies are born weighing less than 3 pounds, we provide donor milk if needed and nutrition products made from donor milk to help those babies grow and thrive.
