Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is among early adopters who are piloting artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that are helping physicians spend more time with patients and less time in front of a screen.
So far, NGHS has already trained more than 480 clinicians to use DAX Copilot during the enterprise deployment. Now part of Dragon Copilot, DAX Copilot tools were integrated into Epic’s electronic health record, which NGHS uses, to ambiently capture conversations with patients and caregivers and automatically convert them into a draft note in Epic.
“We are finding solutions like this are decreasing the cognitive burden and time constraints on our colleagues and making their work lives easier,” said Matthew Zimmie, MD, MSHI, chief medical informatics officer for NGHS. “That’s a win for everyone, because we believe less-stressed clinicians leads to better work-life balance, higher engagement and improved care for patients.”
NGHS started Wave 2 of Epic’s early-adopter program for ambient orders in August to further streamline clinician workflows.
“We have the tools to give clinicians more time with their patients and more control over their day,” said Matt Hanley, MD, president and CEO of NGHS. “It’s how we’re working to retain and recruit the best and brightest people to improve the health of our community in all we do.”
“Our solutions are great examples of how AI can be used to improve the lives of patients, their loved ones and healthcare workers,” said Kenneth Harper, general manager, Dragon Product, Microsoft. “We are pleased to collaborate with Northeast Georgia Health System to transform how their team provides care every day.”
