More people in Georgia now have access to the newest and most advanced robotic surgical technology, as Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville recently added four additional da Vinci 5 (dV5) surgical systems to enhance care for patients.

“We are proud that our surgeons have performed more than 700 procedures using a single dV5 at NGMC Gainesville since becoming the first hospital in Georgia to acquire the new robotic system last summer, which is more than any other hospital in the world during that time,” said Parker Long, DO, OB/GYN with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) and medical director of robotic surgery at NGMC. “That’s a testament to the hard work of our robotics teams who bring their best every day. Now, with four additional robots, more surgical patients can benefit from the newest and greatest technology.”
NGMC Gainesville is now one of only two hospitals in the world to have five or more dV5 robotic systems. In total, NGMC has more than 50 trained surgeons on medical staff who have performed more than 25,000 robotic procedures combined.

As with all da Vinci surgical systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the dV5 robotic-assisted system – which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. This means greater precision and less complications for patients, and robotic surgery often also leads to smaller scars and faster recovery.
“We’re proud to offer state-of-the-art technologies to continue providing the same high-quality care to more patients than ever before,” said Ron Lewis, MD, general surgeon with NGPG and medical director of perioperative services at NGMC.
