COVID-19 Pandemic: NGMC Adjustments

Published: Wednesday, September 1, 2021

Your safety has always been our top priority. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Northeast Georgia Health System has adjusted to meet our community’s needs. As we care for record numbers of patients in this fourth wave, you may notice changes when receiving care in our NGMC hospitals.

Some of the changes may include:

Mobile field hospitals for emergency care

Because of the record numbers of patients seeking emergency care, we have brought back the mobile field hospitals for emergency patients on our Gainesville and Braselton campuses. These mobile field hospitals have all the medical equipment needed for patients with mild to moderate illnesses and injuries. We are full, and the wait time is likely to be somewhat long – but if you need emergency care, please know that we will care for you.

Non-traditional hospital beds and care spaces

To maximize the number of patients we can accept, our hospitals have begun using some non-traditional hospital beds and care spaces in our hospitals. During your visit, your bed might be a stretcher or a cot, and it might be placed in a room with another patient or in a hallway or waiting room.

Thank you for understanding that these non-traditional beds and alternate care spaces allow us to care for as many patients as possible.

Transfers to other facilities

Because of the surge, the number of patients needing care in our facilities has significantly increased. To give you the best care possible, your care team may request you to move to another unit or another hospital.

Please know the moves are only being requested to ensure you’re in the most appropriate place to protect you and other patients.

Visitation Guidelines

Northeast Georgia Health System also continues to adapt to best practices regarding visitation to protect our patients, staff, and community.  We understand that it is difficult to be away from family, especially during times of illness or injury and we appreciate your support and assure you that our visitation guidelines are reviewed and evaluated daily.
