Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Offers Smoking Cessation Classes

GAINESVILLE and BRASELTON, Ga. – Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) is now offering a smoking cessation course in Braselton, and information sessions for an opportunity to enroll in a course in Gainesville.

Roger Schaaf, a long-time smoker, credits the class with helping him quit.

“After trying an anti-smoking drug my doctor prescribed, nicotine patches and loved ones asking me to quit did not work, I knew it was time to take matters into my own hands,” said Schaaf. “Vickie Albanese (the teacher of NGPG’s ‘Freedom From Smoking’ class) did an exceptional job of talking through quitting, rewarding us for every little milestone and helping us continue the momentum of quitting.

“After 57 years, I am now smoke-free thanks to NGPG’s help – and you can be too!”

The Freedom From Smoking course is taught by a certified facilitator and designed to offer the group support and encouragement many people need to quit smoking for good.  It’s an eight-session program, conducted during seven weeks, that helps you understand your addiction and learn ways to break the habit.

Sessions are held in Braselton every Friday from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at NGPG Braselton Clinic.

Information sessions for the Gainesville course will be held at the J.A. Walters YMCA on the following dates:  October 5 at 12 p.m. and October 11 at 6 p.m.  During the information sessions, you will be able to enroll in the class and ask any questions you may have.

The study materials needed for the course cost $25.  Payment can be made with cash or check on your first day of class.  As a bonus, anyone who enrolls in this course in Gainesville receives a free J.A. Walters YMCA Membership for the duration of the seven-week program. The membership includes child care and access to all facilities – free of charge.

“This is an excellent program with results that last,” said Greg Supianoski, vice president of Operations for J.A. Walters YMCA. “We want to offer students a chance to fully change their lives, without any reservations.”
