College Student Volunteers

Northeast Georgia Health System offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for college students based in Atlanta and North Georgia, whether you’re interested in pursuing a career in healthcare or just want to be more involved in your community.

Our student volunteers gain hands-on experience by volunteering to perform non-medical duties in the clinical areas, and they are of great support to the patients, visitors, and staff.

Where Do College Students Volunteer?

We believe that the most successful volunteers are those who are matched with opportunities that best align with their interests and skills. The NGHS Auxiliary team will work with you throughout the onboarding process to help you find the best fit for you. Common areas of service for college volunteers include the following:

  • Emergency Department
  • Inpatient/outpatient rehab
  • Medical research
  • The Window Shops
  • In nursing units such as Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, Med/Surg, and Oncology
  • Hospice

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Volunteer Services track my hours?

Yes, Volunteer Services uses the volunteer management software Volgistics to track volunteer service hours. Volunteers are responsible for signing in and out for each shift to record service hours.

Do you provide references for academic programs or job applications?

Yes, Volunteer Services staff members are glad to provide references. Staff have the discretion to provide a letter of recommendation or a statement verifying the total service hour contribution.

Can I serve in more than one area?

NGHS volunteers may serve in more than one area; however, the majority of college and adult volunteers prefer serving in one or two areas on a consistent basis.

How Do I Apply?

We recommend that college students apply by mid-term of the semester before they wish to begin. To begin the application process, fill out our volunteer interest form or download the application and submit your completed version to auxiliary@nghs.com. In the meantime, please review the NGHS volunteer handbook and our health and immunization requirements.
