Parents-to-be in northeast Georgia can have even greater confidence in the care available close to home, as Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton recently earned The Joint Commission’s Maternal Levels of Care Verification designation as a Level II Maternity Center.
The Joint Commission’s Maternal Levels of Care Verification program evaluates hospitals against nationally recognized criteria developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Level II maternity centers are equipped to care for mothers with certain moderate-risk conditions and newborns who require a higher level of care than is available in a basic maternity setting.
“This designation validates what our patients have come to expect from our maternity program: high-quality, compassionate care backed by the clinical expertise needed to support a wide range of maternal and newborn needs,” said Heather Howell, executive director of NGMC’s Women & Children’s Services. “Whether a pregnancy is routine or requires additional monitoring and support, families can feel confident knowing they have access to exceptional care backed by a highly skilled team prepared for a wide range of maternal and newborn needs.”
The designation reflects the expertise, staffing and resources available at NGMC Braselton, including its Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which provides specialized care for newborns who need additional medical support. Together, these capabilities help families receive a higher level of maternity and newborn care without having to travel far from home.
The recognition also comes shortly after NGMC Braselton celebrated 10 years of maternal and infant care, marking a decade of serving growing families across the region. During that time, the hospital has welcomed thousands of babies and continued to expand the services, expertise and technology available to support mothers and newborns.
“As we celebrate 10 years of caring for mothers and babies, this designation is a meaningful reflection of our team’s dedication to providing the safest, highest-quality care possible,” said Megan Cargile, MSN, RN, director of Women & Children’s Services for NGMC Braselton. “It’s an achievement that reinforces our commitment to supporting families at every stage of their journey.”
