NGHS earns ‘seal of approval’ for nuclear cardiology

People seeking early detection of heart disease, stroke and other serious health conditions now have even more reason to trust Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). NGHS recently earned a three-year accreditation for nuclear cardiology from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), which is considered the gold standard in cardiac imaging.

This “seal of approval” from the IAC covers nuclear cardiology services provided at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville, NGMC Braselton, NGMC Barrow, NGMC Habersham and Georgia Heart Institute clinics in Buford, Blairsville and Cumming. These services include cardiac PET (Positron Emission Tomography) imaging, which can show the location and severity of blockages caused by plaque buildup in the arteries of the heart; and nuclear stress tests, which compare blood flow when the heart is at rest and during exercise.

“This accreditation reflects adherence to the highest quality, safety and reporting standards,” said Vedang Bhavsar, MD, director of Cardiac Imaging, Nuclear and Vascular, for Georgia Heart Institute, the comprehensive heart and vascular service line of NGHS. “The accreditation process emphasizes exceptional patient care through structured reporting, rigorous quality assurance measures, and comprehensive checks and balances across all aspects of nuclear cardiology operations. It’s an outstanding achievement that reflects the strength of our program.”
