People in the North Georgia mountains can now get excellent heart care, closer to home. Georgia Heart Institute, the comprehensive heart and vascular service line of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS), recently began seeing patients at a new outpatient cardiology clinic in Hiawassee.
Patients can schedule appointments to see some of the same providers who practice at Georgia Heart Institute’s bustling clinic about 17 miles away in Blairsville including cardiologists Megan Smith, DO, and Marc Veneziano, MD; nurse practitioner Michelle Robertson, and physician assistant Stephanie Bailey.
“Georgia Heart Institute is committed to investing in the rural communities of North Georgia and helping remove obstacles that prevent people from getting the care they need,” said Dr. Smith, a longtime resident of Blairsville. “By opening this new clinic in Hiawassee, we can bring in more patients than we could see in Blairsville alone and help to address the burden of cardiovascular disease in this region.”
The Hiawassee office offers services including lab draws and processing, monitoring and electrocardiograms (EKGs). When people choose Georgia Heart Institute, they are also connected to all the heart care resources available through NGHS, including robotic heart surgery, certified emergency cardiac care centers, subspecialty care such as electrophysiology and heart failure treatment, national clinical trials and more.
