A well-traveled international physician has chosen to begin his practice as a cardiologist in the same region where he completed his training — right here in northeast Georgia. Emmanuel Olayiwola Amoran, MD, who was a member of the inaugural class of Cardiovascular Disease Fellows at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville, has joined Georgia Heart Institute to care for heart patients in Gainesville and Clayton.
Dr. Amoran is board-certified in echocardiography, cardiac CT, nuclear cardiology, and vascular imaging. He is also interested in preventive cardiology and developing ways that health systems can help patients take a more active role in their health, such as supporting smoking cessation and lifestyle modification.
“I am dxeeply committed to preventive cardiology and patient education,” said Dr. Amoran. “Medicine is most effective when patients are empowered to take an active role in their health. Listening carefully to each person’s experience allows me to understand their needs fully and provide care with the same diligence and respect I would extend to my own family.”
Dr. Amoran earned his medical degree and his master’s degree in Public Health from two universities in Hungary, then attended a two-year training program at the largest hospital on the island nation of Malta before doing more clinical training in Dublin, Ireland. Through his exposure to a wide range of specialties and healthcare systems, he developed a deep appreciation for cardiology’s blend of technology, critical thinking and long-term patient care.
Dr. Amoran moved to the United States for his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. During this time, he found strong mentorship in cardiology and decided to pursue advanced fellowship training in the field. He then made his way to Gainesville as part of NGMC Gainesville’s first Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship class.
“Georgia and the Gainesville area have provided an outstanding environment for my family and me,” said Dr. Amoran. “We have been warmly welcomed and are grateful to be part of such a vibrant and growing community. Northeast Georgia Health System represents the highest standards of medical excellence — combining state-of-the-art facilities, innovative cardiovascular programs and a culture of collaboration. It is a privilege to continue my career here, contributing to the delivery of exceptional heart care across the region.”
Dr. Amoran and his wife live in the Gainesville area. They have adjusted well to suburban life after years in European capitals and Philadelphia. A lifelong soccer fan, he supports the Nigerian national teams and London’s Arsenal F.C.
