Philanthropic Physicians Donate $100,000 to NGHS COVID Relief Fund

Patients and employees of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) will have increased access to needed resources thanks to a $100,000 gift from a group of active and retired physicians to the NGHS COVID Relief Fund. This group of physicians forms the James H. Downey Society – the physician giving club of NGHS – and is dedicated to improving health locally through philanthropic efforts.

The NGHS COVID Relief Fund was established at the onset of the pandemic to increase funding for needed areas within the health system. Community donations make the following possible:

  • Partnerships with local restaurants to provide meals and snacks to front-line staff
  • Expansion of NGHS’ video visit capabilities and other remote care options
  • Therapeutic services for overstressed staff
  • Distraction therapies and communication tools for patients unable to receive visitors

“The Downey Society’s donation to the COVID Relief Fund is just another way they are taking an active role in improving the health of our community beyond their daily efforts as physicians,” said Dr. Pierpont Brown, Chair of NGHS Foundation Board of Trustees. “After a difficult year, this gift helps our staff and patients heal and our community move forward.”

In recognition of these physicians’ generosity – and for everything the medical community has done over the past year – the NGHS Foundation invites you to make your own donation to the NGHS COVID Relief Fund.
