Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) has been blessed by the surrounding community. Because of the support of the people of northeast Georgia, it has been possible for the hospital to operate at a high-level of care, ensuring patients and families can win in the fight against COVID-19.
In the last few months, we have learned that there are tremendous heroes at work every day; they are all around us. Many people in the area have gone above and beyond to aid the healthcare system and we would like to take a moment to say “thank you.”
From businesses donating meals for doctors and nurses, to individuals taking time to sew masks, clubs making self-care kits for front line workers and others supplying medical necessities, NGHS has truly seen the positive impact this community can make. While it is impossible to measure the impact of the support we have received, here are a few key areas that directly enabled us to care for our patients:
- More than 500 donors have stepped in to raise close to $210,000 to the COVID-19 Relief Fund. The COVID-19 Relief Fund provides hospital employees with food, daily needs as well as emotional support and funds to enhance the telemedicine program to decrease exposure to the virus within healthcare facilities.
- Over 5,000 meals have been donated to doctors, nurses and hospital staff by local businesses.
- Almost 57,000 personal protective equipment items have been gifted to the staff to keep them safe on the frontlines.
