NGHS Employee honored as national educator of the year

Tasha Murchison, MSN-Ed, a clinical simulation educator with Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) Center for Simulation and Innovation, has been named the national 2025 Society for Simulation in Healthcare “Educator of the Year.”

This prestigious honor recognizes educators who bring exceptional creativity, skill and compassion to simulation-based education. Tasha was chosen for her work in addressing maternal healthcare disparities through transformative educational practices.

“Tasha’s passion for education is rooted in a simple, powerful calling she often shares: saving pregnant women, one woman at a time,” said Jim Rinehart, director of clinical skills and simulation at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. “This mission shines through everything she does.”

Tasha and the Center for Simulation and Innovation team have helped ensure that emergency medical services (EMS) providers, rural hospitals and underserved regions receive the same high-quality educational support available elsewhere by utilizing the NGHS mobile simulation lab, a specially equipped vehicle resembling an ambulance that brings realistic hands-on medical training directly to healthcare providers.

Between 2023 – 2025, the mobile simulation lab delivered education to more than 600 EMS personnel across north Georgia.

To further address healthcare disparities, Tasha partners with HOPE for Georgia Moms to provide workshops for areas with limited maternity care. Since 2024, these workshops have trained 199 healthcare providers from Georgia and neighboring states, and four instructors are now certified to expand the program using a train-the-trainer model.

“Every woman deserves safe, compassionate care throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period – that belief guides my work each day. By rethinking how we support and educate healthcare providers, I’m dedicated to helping transform knowledge into meaningful action to improve maternal health outcomes,” said Tasha.

Tasha’s work has reached thousands of learners, touched countless families and strengthened the safety net for mothers and babies throughout our region.
