Heart failure is a serious medical condition that occurs when the heart muscle cannot pump blood as efficiently as it should – meaning your heart can’t fill up with enough blood or it’s too weak to pump properly. Effective management for heart failure requires careful monitoring to maintain your quality of life and ensure your condition does not worsen.

Regardless of the treatment plan, individuals with heart failure require careful monitoring. Patients and caregivers must keep close track of new or suddenly worsening symptoms like:

  • rapid weight gain
  • increased swelling in the lower extremities
  • increased fatigue

That is why the Heart Failure Center at Georgia Heart Institute offers CardioMEMS – an innovative, in-home telemonitoring service used to quickly address the symptoms of heart failure.

What is CardioMEMS?

CardioMEMS is an innovative therapy available at Georgia Heart Institute that offers that offers a precise way of monitoring heart failure in real time – helping your heart failure care team to quickly address symptoms that often lead to hospitalization before that occurs.

How does CardioMEMS work?

CardioMEMS is an implanted device that transmits information about your condition directly to your comprehensive care team at Georgia Heart Institute. Patients can take daily readings from home using a Patient Electronics System.

With that information, your care team from the Heart Failure Center can make any necessary adjustments to your treatment regimen, including medication dosages. This technology provides a new level of personalization and optimization – helping to keep your heart failure under control and improve your quality of life.

Who is eligible for CardioMEMS?

CardioMEMS may be an option for patients whose physical activity is limited due to their heart failure condition or who have been hospitalized for heart failure within the last year.

Your care team at our Heart Failure Center will determine if this treatment is the right option for you and if it will help improve your condition. If you are interested in learning more about it, speak with your provider at Georgia Heart Institute about CardioMEMS or ask your primary care doctor for a referral to the Heart Failure Center at Georgia Heart Institute.
