Professional Practice Model

Our Professional Practice Model (PPM) symbolizes our beliefs, values, and systems for nursing practice. Depicted as a vibrant tree, it reflects our commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and fostering a supportive environment for our nursing team.

The trunk reflects our foundation in shift primary nursing, while the branches represent the broader NGHS system and our Quest for Excellence. The multicolored leaves illustrate the ongoing changes and meaningful moments experienced daily, and the orange leaves highlight our “Seven Cs” of nursing: Compassion, Competence, Confidence, Conscience, Commitment, Comportment, and Creativity.

Dedicated care across all hours is honored through the yellow (day shift) and blue (night shift) areas. Rooted in our core values and supported by NGHS pillars—Safety/Quality, People, Service Excellence, Delivery, and Stewardship—this model underscores our mission: improving the health of our community in all we do.

  • Technology Support

    NGHS leverages technology to enhance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes: 

    • Epic Electronic Health Record System: Nurses can request enhancements and participate in workgroups to improve documentation efficiency. Feedback has led to the saving of millions of clicks and the integration of tools like Elsevier to streamline workflows. 
    • Get Well Technology: Used in patient rooms, this platform provides patient education through television screens and automatically documents completion, ensuring patients receive timely and accurate information.

  • Growth Opportunities

    NGHS offers a variety of programs to support the professional development of our nursing staff: 

    • Differentiated Practice Model (DPM): The DPM at NGHS recognizes and compensates nurses based on their experience, education, and certifications. Nurses are placed into levels upon hire, with opportunities for advancement during annual reviews. This model ensures that nurses are rewarded for their expertise and contributions to patient care. 
    • Professional Development Program (PDP): A voluntary program that rewards nurses for extracurricular activities such as community involvement, committee participation, and quality improvement initiatives. Nurses earn points that translate into annual lump sum payments. 
    • Certification Resources: NGHS provides electronic review courses, certification vouchers, and reimbursement for one certification exam per year, encouraging nurses to pursue and achieve specialty certifications. 
    • Education Resources: Access to scholarships, tuition discounts, and tuition reimbursement programs to support ongoing education and career advancement.
