Knee replacement surgery refers to a procedure in which damaged bone and cartilage in the knee are replaced by an artificial joint.  The most common reason to have a knee joint replaced is to ease arthritis pain.

In some cases, patients can undergo a partial knee replacement, which replaces only the damaged part of the knee, rather than the entire knee joint.  Partial knee replacement is typically a good option for patients who:

  • Have arthritis in only one side or part of the knee
  • Have limited or minor arthritis on the other side of the knee or under the kneecap
  • Still have good range of motion in the knee

Benefits of Partial Knee Replacement

  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Reduced pain
  • Faster recovery times
  • Quicker return to normal activities - most patients are back on their feet within a day and able to walk without a cane or walker within weeks of surgery
