Published on November 14, 2017

Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) recently welcomed Marsha Porter MSN, RN, CNOR as Executive Director of Perioperative Services.

In this role, Porter acts as a liaison between medical staff, patients, administration, nursing staff and other divisions. Porter is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the delivery of high quality, individualized patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams.

“Marsha has a wealth of perioperative leadership experience,” said Wes Garrison, associate chief nursing officer. “NGHS welcomes her with open arms, as she helps continue to promote growth and improve the patient care experience for the entire system.”

Porter began her nursing career in 1980 as an Operating Room staff nurse where she quickly recognized the critical need for strong, knowledgeable leadership in the Perioperative environment.  Most of her career was spent at Duke University Hospital in Perioperative Services holding positions from staff nurse to Clinical Operations director.

After leaving Duke in 2014, Porter worked at the Medical University of South Carolina as clinical director of the Operating Rooms and, most recently, at Mission Health in Asheville, N.C. as director of the Asheville Surgery Center.
