NGMC to Help Community Live Lighter

Published on February 10, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — It’s time to put your well-intentioned New Year’s Resolutions into practice, and if one of your goals for the new year is to begin a healthier lifestyle, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) can help with its Living Lighter program.  The next session of Living Lighter is set to begin Thursday, February 10, at NGMC Lanier Park.

A non-surgical weight loss program of NGMC’s Bariatric Weight Loss Center, Living Lighter is a program that consists of 10 weeks of classes led by a registered dietitian.  Classes will focus on weight management and improving overall wellness.  Participants will also have the opportunity to learn and master new lifestyle skills that result in permanent change.  After completion of the 10 classes, participants have the opportunity to continue periodic weigh-ins for an additional six months to support long-term success.

"This program has been very successful for our participants in the past, and we are pleased to be able to offer it again," says Hannah Shope Day, RN, CDE, Bariatric and Diabetes coordinator of the Bariatric Weight Loss Center at NGMC.  "This program allows us to offer a non-surgical weight loss option, in addition to the gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding surgical procedures we perform, with all of the same clinical expertise and support systems that have made our surgical programs so successful."

Living Lighter is now being offered at a reduced rate of $50 for the total program.  Classes will be held each Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m., in the Blue Ridge Room at Lanier Park beginning February 10.  Start your new year off right by joining Living Lighter.  To pre-register, or for more information, call 770-219-0597 or email
