As advances in cancer therapies are enabling cancer patients to live longer, experts have discovered there is sometimes a link between cancer treatment and potential heart disease. Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) assembled a multi-disciplinary team to provide specialized heart care to patients with cancer before, during and after treatment to help patients beat cancer while maintaining a healthy heart.
Electrophysiology is the cardiology specialty that diagnoses and treats heart arrhythmias, a disturbance of the heart’s normal rhythm that may be serious and even life threatening. At Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC), cardiology specialists called electrophysiologists use the most advanced technology to detect, diagnose and treat arrhythmias.
Northeast Georgia Medical Center offers Heart Failure Support Services to both inpatients and outpatients with Heart Failure (HF), formerly called congestive heart failure. Our goal is to provide patients, as well as their family members/caregivers, with the education they need to understand the HF disease process, and then how to best manage their condition at home. The purpose of this is to prevent reoccurrence of symptoms and keep the HF patient feeling well at home.
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories (also known as the cardiac cath labs) located at NGMC Gainesville and NGMC Braselton offer a variety of diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures used in the treatment of coronary artery and peripheral vascular disease, as well as other structural heart conditions.
Our rehabilitation services include care of inpatients recovering from open-heart surgery, cardiac interventions such as angioplasty and stent placement and other coronary events in a 17-bed state-of-the-art cardiac intensive care unit. We also run a Cardiac Rehabilitation program, using education, exercise and emotional support for patients after a cardiac event.
A collaboration between NGMC’s Emergency Rooms, Cath Lab and EMS departments in 18 counties is designed to treat your heart attack as quickly as possible.
This program is funded in part by The Medical Center Foundation.
We offer a wide range of treatments for structural heart problems, including congenital heart defects and valve conditions. These minimally-invasive procedures are performed in a cardiac cath lab and can offer an alternative to open heart surgery.
Our expert team of providers offers state-of-the-art diagnosis of heart and vascular disease. Procedures are performed Monday through Friday for inpatients and outpatients. Staff is available on-call for night, weekend and other emergency exams.
By cooling your body to lower temperatures after you suffer a heart attack, caregivers minimize the harm caused by reduced blood flow to your brain. Here’s how it works:
- Cold saline is injected into your body through an intravenous line (IV) while you’re in the ambulance.
- When you arrive at the hospital, special cooling blankets continue to lower your core body temperature.
Early analysis of therapeutic hypothermia shows promise in improving both chances of survival and neurologic outcomes for heart attack patients.
Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s North Patient Tower is home to two state-of-the-art surgical suites dedicated exclusively to vascular surgery. Each suite is equipped with advanced technology and resources to care for more than 2,000 patients each year:
