Therapeutic Hypothermia

By cooling your body to lower temperatures after you suffer a heart attack, caregivers minimize the harm caused by reduced blood flow to your brain. Here’s how it works:

  • Cold saline is injected into your body through an intravenous line (IV) while you’re in the ambulance.
  • When you arrive at the hospital, special cooling blankets continue to lower your core body temperature.

Early analysis of therapeutic hypothermia shows promise in improving both chances of survival and neurologic outcomes for heart attack patients.

Vascular Surgery

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s North Patient Tower is home to two state-of-the-art surgical suites dedicated exclusively to vascular surgery.  Each suite is equipped with advanced technology and resources to care for more than 2,000 patients each year:

  • Videoscopes, cameras and high-definition monitors enhance physicians’ view of procedures as they are performed.
  • Nurses and technologists are highly-specialized in, and dedicated to, vascular procedures.
