Cardiac Surgery

The Ronnie Green Heart Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville offers comprehensive cardiac surgical and inpatient coronary care. In addition to a state-of-the-art coronary care unit, our highly experienced physicians and staff provide a full range of open heart surgery and less-invasive procedures including:

  • Valve replacement and/or repair, including several types of minimally-invasive valve surgery
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Off-pump bypass procedures
  • Repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms.

Each year, the physicians and staff care for approximately 500 cardiac surgical patients who consistently experience excellent outcomes.

Minimally-Invasive Cardiac Surgery

For patients with some types of heart valve disease, Northeast Georgia Medical Center offers advanced minimally-invasive procedures requiring smaller incisions and other benefits.

  • Smaller incisions (2 inches compared to 6 – 12 inches)
  • Less bone spreading (size of a dime vs. size of an orange)
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Quicker return to normal activities
  • Less pain and scarring
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less blood loss and fewer transfusions

Mitral and Aortic Valve Reconstruction

If you have an aortic valve defect which requires or can be alleviated by surgery, minimally invasive aortic valve reconstruction may be an option for you.

MitraClip procedure

Formally called transcatheter mitral valve repair with MitraClip therapy, the MitraClip procedure provides patients with a less-invasive treatment alternative. With MitraClip, patients are typically discharged from the hospital after one or two days, and total recovery takes about a week.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

The Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center offers an innovative treatment for aortic stenosis by replacing the diseased valve with a minimally-invasive approach.
