NGMC is the only health system in the state of Georgia, and one of the few in the United States, to offer histotripsy treatment for liver cancer tumors.

What Is Histotripsy?

An innovative non-invasive treatment for liver tumors. Histotripsy uses focused ultrasound waves to precisely destroy cancer cells in the liver without needles or incisions. Research demonstrates that other normal structures in the liver including blood vessels and bile ducts can remain unharmed while destroying the cancer cells around them using histotripsy.  These procedures can be performed without disrupting chemotherapy or other treatments and have been shown to have minimal side effects. This new treatment has been FDA-approved for the treatment of liver tumors.
