CARF Stroke Specialty Certified

NGMC's inpatient rehabilitation unit was one of the first 20 in the nation to receive Stroke Specialty Certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Awards

NGMC Gainesville has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success, ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally-recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

To receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must achieve 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines - Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month periods. They also must achieve 75% or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Quality measures.

To qualify for the Target: Stroke Honor Roll, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.

The hospital also received a Georgia Coverdell Acute Stroke Registry Star Award.

NGMC Braselton received the Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award by achieving 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators during a three-month period.

The hospital in Braselton was also designated as a Remote Treatment Stroke Center by the Georgia Department of Public Health for its ability to evalutate, stabilize and provide evidence-based treatment to patients with acute stroke symptoms, as well as having the resources to transfer patients who might require more complex surgery. NGMC's established policies, protocols, data collection, resources, community relations and quality improvement were also important factors the state considered for this designation.

NGMC Barrow was designated as a Remote Treatment Stroke Center in 2019. The designation recognizes the hospital's focus on everything from rapid screening, diagnosis and treatment for patients experiencing an acute stroke, to prevention measures such as blood pressure control, smoking cessation and treatment of elevated cholesterol levels.
