Tips for Adjusting Your Sleep Habits to the Spring 2012 Time Change

March 05, 2012
3/5/12

GAINESVILLE, GA – This weekend, we will all “lose” an hour of sleep as the time changes for Daylight Saving Time.  The change to your body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, may result in some grogginess during those first couple of days back to work.  To help you adjust, the Sleep Disorders Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center offers these tips:
  • Make sure that even with more daylight, you keep your normal bedtime routine, and remember that relaxing prior to bedtime is important.
  • Don’t go to bed too hungry or too full.  An early dinner with a light snack will lead to a better night’s sleep.
  • Stop your caffeine intake at least eight hours before bedtime.
These tips are designed to help the average person adjust to the time change, but many people still suffer from more serious sleep disorders.  In fact, more than 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders, which can affect overall health and even be life-threatening.  Fortunately, most sleep problems can be effectively managed.
The Sleep Disorders Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment programs that can help patients lead healthier, longer and more productive lives. Fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Sleep Disorders Center of NGMC is supported by nationally known, board-certified sleep specialists with more than 65 years of combined experience.
The Sleep Disorders Center of NGMC offers three convenient locations:  Gainesville at 535 Jesse Jewell Parkway; Braselton at 5737 Thompson Mill Road; and Buford at 4445 South Lee Street.
