Joints in Motion

WHAT IS IT?

The Joints In Motion Program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center uses a team approach to rehabilitation after hip and knee replacement surgery. Extensive patient education classes are held prior to surgery with emphases on pre-operative and post-operative care. Our goal is to have the patients up moving and exercising as soon as possible after surgery. The expected length of stay in the hospital is 3-4 days.

WHAT IS OFFERED?

Some components of the program include:

* A “support “ person for each patient-a family member or friend selected by the patient to support him/her during the program and at home.

* Education and training for the patient and “support” person with an evaluation of their home or discharge environment.

* Physical Therapy sessions twice daily with specific nursing duties assigned each day.

* A daily newsletter delivered to your room each morning to patients, which highlight the events of the day and offer advice and tips about recovery process.

* A follow up phone call after discharge home to discuss your progress and improvements.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Any patient scheduled for total joint replacement will be requested to attend a 2-hour class prior to your surgery date. Also anyone in the community interested in attending a class may call the Joints In Motion Coordinator Monday –Friday at 678-897-5257.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE CLASS OFFERED?

Weekly classes will take place in the Joints In Motion classroom on 1WEST. For patients having a total knee replacement, the class will be offered on Tuesday at 10am. For patients having a total hip replacement, the class will be offered on Thursday at 10am.
