Since it began offering advanced cardiac surgical and intervention services in late 2002, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has received national recognition for its excellent clinical outcomes, and the exceptional quality of cardiac care provided at the NGMC continues to place the program among the top hospitals in the region, the state and the nation.

In 2004, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) reviewed the latest clinical data for its open heart surgery and cardiac intervention programs, and deemed the program’s results well above national and regional averages for similar programs.

The ACC and STS reported that NGMC’s cardiac program was experiencing better patient outcomes in mortality, length of stay and peri-operative and post-operative complications as compared to other regional and national programs, despite the fact that the risk factors of cardiac surgical and intervention patients were greater, including increased age, more obese patients and a higher incidence of previous cardiac events and disease, than the patients of other programs.

In 2006, NGMC was ranked among the top 5% in the nation for Overall Cardiac Care, Cardiac Surgery and Coronary Interventional Procedures, according to a comprehensive study released by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings company. According to HealthGrades’ 2007 ratings, NGMC’s cardiac program is:

• Ranked in the Top 5% in the Nation for Overall Cardiac Services;
• Ranked in the Top 5% in the Nation for Cardiac Surgery;
• Ranked #1 in Georgia for Overall Cardiac Care;
• Ranked #1 in Georgia for Cardiac Surgery;
• Ranked #1 in Georgia for Cardiac Interventions; and
• A recipient of the HealthGrades 2007 Cardiac Care Excellence Award. ™
