In 2004, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) reviewed the latest clinical data for its open heart surgery and cardiac intervention programs, and deemed the program’s results well above national and regional averages for similar programs. The ACC and STS reported that NGMC’s cardiac program was experiencing better patient outcomes in mortality, length of stay and peri-operative and post-operative complications as compared to other regional and national programs, despite the fact that the risk factors of cardiac surgical and intervention patients were greater, including increased age, more obese patients and a higher incidence of previous cardiac events and disease, than the patients of other programs.
