Osteoporosis is a progressive disease which weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break. Osteoporosis affects 10 million people in the United States, and an additional 18 million are at risk for the disorder because of low bone mass. It is considered a leading factor in the 1.3 million bone fractures people over age 45 sustain each year. The Stand Tall program is designed to meet the special needs of individuals with osteoporosis. The program provides a comprehensive approach to managing osteoporosis for people who have symptoms or for those in the early, non-symptomatic stage. Services include:· Instruction in an individualized exercise program · Education of dietary needs · Instruction in body mechanics and fall prevention · Treatment to relieve pain and increase mobility after fractures · Evaluation for balance deficits and instruction in corrective exercises · Education regarding safety precautions for exercises, sports, leisure activities and activities of daily living For more information call 770-533-8200.
