Inpatient Rehab
Our Goal
The Rehabilitation Institute's Inpatient Rehabilitation Program offers both acute and subacute physical rehabilitation services for adult patients. These services are designed to minimize the handicapping effects of physical, emotional, social, vocational and communication impairments due to disability, accident or injury and to maximize the potential for independence and enhance the quality of life for our patients.

Our Patients
Patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program have functional disabilities in one or more of the following areas:
- activities of daily living cognition
- communication
- pain management
- bowel or bladder control
- swallowing
- emotional functioning
- mobility
Acute rehabilitation patients require the coordinated efforts of several rehabilitation specialties and typically participate in approximately three hours of therapy per day. Subacute patients require a less intense program and may need only one rehabilitation service daily or a combination of services over a period of time.

Our Team
Patients receive 24-hour coverage by physicians and nurses skilled in medical rehabilitation. Team conferences are held weekly to share progress and concerns and update treatment goals. The patient participates in goal setting and periodic updates are given to the patient and family. Patient and family education is a major part of care and discharge planning.
Our team is made up of:
-a physiatrist
-case managers
-physical therapists
-occupational therapists
-speech language pathologists
-registered nurses
-registered dietitians
-a neuropsychologist
Other services may include physician consultations, orthotics and prosthetics, dentistry, driving screening, audiology, pastoral care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy and community resources. The rehabilitation team also may recommend further therapies such as outpatient or home health services after discharge. Northeast Georgia Medical Center provides outpatient rehabilitation to ensure a patient's rehabilitation success continues.
