Have a medical question? Wonder if you need to see a doctor of visit the Emergency Room? You can get answers to these questions and more by calling Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Nurseline at 678-343-INFO (4636). Funded by the NGMC Auxiliary, the Nurseline is a free telephone triage service in which registered nurses guide callers in making decisions about seeking care. They also provide health information on a variety of topics.

The Nurseline is staffed by a registered nurse 9 a.m. – 1 a.m. seven days a week. When the nurse receives a call, she asks the caller a series of questions to gain specific information about the person’s inquiry. The information is entered into a computer database of national physician-approved medical protocols. Based on the answers entered, the nurse can provide advice, information and guidance for the caller.

The Nurseline currently receives approximately 30 calls daily.

In addition to treatment advice, the Nurseline staff can also provide health information to callers. They often answer questions about diseases, such as SARS and West Nile Virus, as well as many other healthcare topics.

So, next time you or a family member has a question about where to seek medical treatment or about a healthcare issue, remember the Nurseline – 678-343-INFO (4636).
