"The study released today marks a tremendous achievement for our cardiac team and our health system as a whole," says Jim Gardner, NGMC President and CEO. "Claiming the number one ranking in the state for the fourth year in a row further demonstrates people don’t need to drive to Atlanta to receive high-quality cardiac care and exemplifies our goal of providing exceptional health care, close to home."
The study also found patients admitted to the nation’s top performing (five-star rated) hospitals, like NGMC, are approximately 50 percent less likely to die compared to the national hospital average.
About The StudyThe 11th annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study is the most comprehensive study of its kind, analyzing more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2005 to 2007 at the nation’s approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals. The study examines procedures and conditions ranging from heart valve-replacement surgery to heart attack to pneumonia.
Each hospital receives a star rating based on its patient outcomes in terms of mortality or complication rates for each procedure or treatment. Hospitals with outcomes that are above average to a statistically significant degree receive a five-star rating. Hospitals with below average outcomes receive a one-star rating.
