New, Shorter Sessions of Living Lighter Scheduled for August & October

July 19, 2012
July 19

The Bariatric Weight Loss Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) recently revamped its non-surgical weight loss program, Living Lighter, to better accommodate the busy schedules of its patients and the community.

NGMC will now offer shorter four-week sessions more frequently throughout the year with a more convenient class time – 5 to 6 p.m. instead of 6 to 7 p.m.

“After hearing feedback from some of our participants, we found that offering these shorter sessions, more often, would better benefit our participants,” says Leslie C. Davis, MS, RD, LD, CDE, a registered dietitian with NGMC’s Bariatric Weight Loss Center and the leader of the Living Lighter sessions.  “They also liked the earlier start time since most attend right after work.  We are thrilled to announce these new improvements and hope these changes will allow us to better serve our community.”

Living Lighter classes focus on improving overall wellness and quality of life through healthy eating, while also helping participants distinguish fact from fiction about common weight loss myths.  Through Living Lighter, participants have the opportunity to learn and master new lifestyle and weight management skills that result in permanent change.

After completion of the four-week session, participants have the opportunity to continue periodic weigh-ins for an additional six months to support long-term success.  Many even attend the next session to stay on track with their weight loss.

“Living Lighter has been a very successful non-surgical weight loss option for our participants,” says Rita Shingleton, RN, CBN, NGMC’s bariatric program manager.  “We are pleased to offer this program, in addition to the gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding surgical procedures we perform, with all of the same clinical expertise and support systems that have made our surgical programs so successful.”

The Bariatric Weight Loss Center will offer two new four-week sessions starting on August 9 and October 4.  Classes will be held weekly from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Room at Lanier Park.

The total cost of the program is $50.  For more information, or to register, call 770-219-0597 or email living.lighter@nghs.com.  For more information about weight loss services at NGMC, click here.
