Strong Families

Brave Hearts

Grief is hard work. There are difficult emotions to navigate and figuring out how to function as a family day-to-day can seem overwhelming at times. You may have lost a cherished member of your family, but you are STILL a family and you are not alone. Join other families affected by loss for a day-long, fun-filled retreat at Fort Yargo State Park. Strong Families Brave Hearts (SFBH) is open to families with chil-dren ages 10 and up who have experienced the death of a family member. SFBH is facilitated by adventure therapist Jamie Shankles who has led groups for both adults and youth for over 20 years.

"Niye’lo: It’s up to you!"

Strong Families, Brave Hearts is based on the concept of "Niye’lo": a Native American word meaning "it’s up to you". You and your family will engage in a variety of games and challenge activi-ties and will be encouraged to challenge your-selves, both individually and as a family. "It’s up to you" to set goals for yourself and your family and to stretch as far as you are comfortable.

Find connection!
