Children’s Visitation Restriction Extended to Include OB Units at NGMC

October 02, 2009
GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Due to the unusually serious health risks this flu season, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has extended children’s visitation restrictions to include the Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby units, as well as all other inpatient units.

When NGMC implemented children’s visitation restrictions earlier this month, an exception was made to allow well siblings of newborns to visit in their mother’s room only on the OB units. However, due to the severe illnesses reported among pregnant women and infants already this flu season, NGMC and its OB physicians have made the decision to extend the children’s visitation restriction to the OB units as well, effective immediately.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause patients, families and visitors, but we hope they understand that our ultimate priority is to protect the safety of mothers and newborns during their hospital stay," says Sara Dyer, RN, director of Women & Children’s Services at NGMC.
