Our Braveheart Program is tailored to fit the very specific needs of children and teens, who process grief differently than adults.
Camp Braveheart
Camp Braveheart is a day camp for children and teens who have experienced the death of a close friend or family member. This camp is FREE and available to any youth in the community who has experienced a significant death.
Facilitated by a team of licensed social workers, therapists and trained volunteers, Camp Braveheart is a structured, supportive environment which provides campers with:
- Vocabulary to talk about death, loss and intense emotions
- Healthy ways to cope with those intense emotions
- Opportunities to talk about and remember their loved one
- A safe place to talk about changes, fears and frustrations
- A chance to interact with other children/teens with similar losses
Camp Braveheart accomplishes these objectives through a combination of play, journaling, group discussion, art therapy, challenge games and one-on-one support.
At Camp Braveheart, we talk about sad things, but it is not a sad place. FUN is the underlying objective of everything we do!

Volunteers may either work directly with campers as "Big Buddies" providing assistance with activities and one-on-one support, or in a more "behind-the-scenes" capacity helping with food preparation, set up/clean up and general site supervision.

School-based Grief Support Groups
Braveheart counselors can guide a grief support group at your child’s school with a referral and help from a school counselor. Our counselors understand children’s natural resiliency and can help them navigate their feelings based on individual emotional and developmental needs.
