Adult Volunteers

Volunteers are vital to the quality of service provided to patients at the Medical Center’s Main Campus, in the homes of Hospice patients and Lifeline subscribers and at the long term care facilities, New Horizons North and West.

How to Become a Volunteer

  • The Volunteer office accepts new volunteers throughout the year. Call the Volunteer Services office at 770-219-1830 to request an application and to schedule a time for a brief interview. Volunteers are required to make a minimum six-month commitment.
  • Bring your completed volunteer application and background check form that you receive in the mail with you to your interview or complete the forms when you arrive for your interview.
  • Accepted volunteers must attend volunteer orientation, complete a TB skin test and provide documentation of their MMR immunizations, if born in 1957 or later.

How Much Time is involved and what will my schedule be

  • Most volunteers serve a weekly four-hour shift, however the time given varies among volunteers. Some volunteers give of their time weekly, others give of their time twice monthly, and some volunteer only for special events. The Volunteer Services staff will work with you individually to develop a schedule.
  • The volunteer interview will provide you an opportunity to discuss your interests and skills, and personal schedules are matched to the volunteer opportunities available. Following volunteer orientation, volunteers have an opportunity to train in a variety of service areas before being assigned to a service area.
