Northeast Georgia Medical Center Receives Bronze Medal for Organ Donation

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) recently received the bronze Medal of Honor and was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration for saving lives through organ donation at the 2009 National Learning Congress in Grapevine, Texas. The Medal of Honor was awarded for outstanding achievement and sustaining national goals for donation, including a donation rate of 75 percent or more of eligible donors during a 22-month award period, which ended in April 2009.

Gainesville, Ga. – Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Georgia for individuals ages one to 34 years. In 2007, 56 children, age 14 and younger, were involved in fatal crashes in Georgia. Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County is urging all persons who transport children to attend a free car seat inspection Thursday, Sept. 17, 3 to 6 p.m. at Target in Gainesville. In recognition of National Child Passenger Safety Week, September 12-18, Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will have certified technicians available to provide on-site child safety seat inspections and education.
