Awards: The Cancer Center
The Cancer Center at NGMC is the proud recipient of the Comission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons Outstanding Achievement Award give to only 31 facilities nationwide.
The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes cancer programs that demonstrate excellence in providing high quality care to patients throughout their entire continuum of care including:
- Clinical services
- Quality improvements
- Community outreach
- Cancer committee leadership
- Research
- Cancer data mangement

NGMC Cancer Center recognized for excellence in
cancer care
The Cancer Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center was recently granted three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation with commendation is the highest level of accreditation that can be achieved by a cancer center. Approval by the COC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation and review of their performance and processes. Three-year accreditation with commendation is awarded when the program complies with all COC standards and receives a commendation rating for at least one or more of the eligible categories of standards. Currently, the COC has eight categories of standards, and the Cancer Center at NGMC received commendation in all eight categories.
(8/2006) American College of Surgeons Acknowledges NGMC as Providing the Highest Level Standard of Care for Treatment of Stage III Colon Cancer
The Cancer Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center recently received a published report from the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) which acknowledged NGMC as providing the highest level Standard of Care for treatment of Stage III colon cancer patients. The report is based on comparison of data from 1998 through 2002 submitted by ACoS approved cancer programs.
