Cardiac & Vascular Diagnostic Services

Nuclear RoomNortheast Georgia residents can receive state-of-the-art diagnosis of heart and vascular disease at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC).

Cardiac testing is performed in the W. D. Stribling Heart Clinic, located on the 3rd floor of the Outpatient Services building.  The Stribling Heart Clinic houses a complete range of diagnostic cardiac and vascular services—including vascular lab, cardiology lab with EKG, echo and stress testing and nuclear medicine—in one central location resulting in easy accessibility for both patients and physicians. The Stribling Heart Clinic is connected by a bridge to the third floor of the inpatient cardiac floor and the Ronnie Green Heart Center allowing convenient access for patients and staff.

History of The W. D. Stribling Heart Clinic

The W.D. Stribling Heart Clinic is named for W. D. Stribling, III, MD, a leading cardiologist who served the local community until his death in 1998. Friends of Dr. Stribling joined together following his death to support his legacy with substantial donations through The Medical Center Foundation to make the Clinic a reality.

A renowned figure in the northeast Georgia medical community, Dr. Stribling received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and biology at the Citadel in 1949, his medical degree from Emory in 1953 and completed four additional years of training at the National Heart Institute. He came to Gainesville in 1957 and joined several other local physicians in founding a practice that would later become the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic. Over the years, Dr. Stribling became a pioneer and champion for bringing the latest in cardiac care to northeast Georgia including assisting in bringing the first defibrillator to the Medical Center and training nurses in CPR when only physicians were permitted to perform it on patients.

Cardiac & Vascular Diagnostic Testing

Procedures are performed Monday through Friday for inpatients and outpatients.  Staff is available on-call for night, weekend and other emergency exams.

In addition, Northeast Georgia Medical Center also offers cardiac MRI services at The Imaging Center, located in Gainesville. These additional services were made available through an upgrade of NGMC’s current MRI machine, and NGMC is the first in the region to offer this technology. A non-invasive way for physicians to look closely at the structure and function of the heart as well as major vessels quickly and thoroughly, cardiovascular MRI is cutting-edge technology in the diagnosis and management of heart and vascular disease.
