Reason #1: Our Patients More than 67,000 patients have trusted their cardiovascular care to NGMC since 2002. That number includes nearly 9,000 interventions (like stents and angioplasties), nearly 7,000 heart surgeries and thousands of diagnostic procedures.

Reason #2: Our Physicians More than 80 cardiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists and other specialists are affiliated with our Heart & Vascular Services. Many of those physicians have trained at the nation's most prestigious cardiac programs including Emory, Harvard University, Columbia University and the Mayo Clinic.

Reason #3: Our Staff Members of our specialized Heart & Vascular staff run the gamut from registered cardiovascular invasive specialists to cardiac care nurses. Staff in all areas completed specialized training for each position and continue their education each year to stay at the forefront of the evolving healthcare industry.

Reason #4: Our EMS NGMC partners with EMS, and community hospitals, in more than 15 counties across the region to form the Northeast Georgia Regional STEMI Program - a collaborative effort to provide fast and efficient treatment across the region to patients suffering severe heart attacks known as STEMI (S-T Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction).

Reason #5: Our Donors As part of a registered non-profit health system, our Heart & Vascular Services would not be possible without the philanthropic support of our community. Reason #6: Our Volunteers Hundreds of people have volunteered their time through NGMC's local chapter of Mended Hearts, a nationwide support organization for individuals with heart disease, including persons recovering from heart attacks, angioplasty or surgery. NGMC's chapter recently received the national President's Cup award.

Reason #7: Our Innovation We continue to offer advanced technology that is usually only offered at major academic hospitals including: • Clinical trials • Minimally invasive valve reconstructions • Transcatheter aortic valve replacements

Gainesville's centralized location also means NGMC is a convenient distance from all community hospitals across North Georgia.

Reason #9: Our Facilities NGMC is home to four new operating rooms dedicated to heart and vascular surgery, five cardiac catheterization labs, two electrophysiology labs, a dedicated inpatient heart failure unit and the Ronnie Green Heart Center - which features a 17-bed cardiac intensive care unit.

10 Reasons to Celebrate 10 Years of Healing Hearts

Back in August of 2002, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) changed the landscape for heart care when it started offering cardiac surgery and cardiac interventions like angioplasty and stents.

The new programs and the Ronnie Green Heart Center were made possible through a generous $4 million signature gift to The Medical Center Foundation by Frank & Lillie Mae Green from the estate of their only son, Ronnie, who died of a heart attack one year earlier. Our community has continued to support the growth of NGMC's Heart & Vascular Services through a decade of giving to The Medical Center Foundation.
